The title of this poem should rightly be The Ballad Of John Reginald Halliday Christie (1899-1953); some time after publishing it I checked the relevant documents at the Public Record Office. Christie’s criminal record gives his date of birth as April 8, 1898, but his birth certificate (which is obviously to be trusted) gives it as April 8, 1899, at Blackboy House, Halifax.
