The 3 E’s Of Monopoly Capitalism

1. Embrace
2. Extend
3. Extinguish

* The above can be stated even more aggressively as Embrace, Extend, Exterminate. (The word and after the first 2 is optional). Capitalists have used dirty tactics to eliminate competition since the Progressive Era of 1896-1917 and well before that. Adam Smith remarked on this in his 1776 treatise The Wealth Of Nations. Having said that, the above strategy alludes specifically to the cyber-age and even more specifically to one apparently first employed by Micro$oft. It used that strategy to destroy the Netscape web browser, hoping to consolidate its monopoly. This brought the company into conflict with the Department Of Justice. Although Netscape did not survive, at the time of writing – December 2023 – consumers are spoilt for choice; the wide range of browsers includes Edge (by Micro$soft), Chrome (by Google), Opera, and many more.
