* The wording of the above varies; they are also alluded to as mass atrocity crimes. Ethnic cleansing might be thought of as genocide without the mass murder. The word genocide dates only from 1944. These terms have been developed since the end of the Second World War and will doubtless evolve further. Torture is one addition. Enforced Disapperances was added in 2011.
