The 5 States Of Matter

* Traditionally there are three states of matter: solid, liquid, gas. The word fluid alludes to both liquid and gas. Plasma makes up the bulk of matter; a plasma is best described as an extremely hot gas and then some. A degenerate gas is the final stage of matter, when a star collapses into a white dwarf or black hole. Some people go further, claiming crystals are a different state or states, then there is all sorts of weird stuff like Fermionic condensate, but in everyday parlance there are three states, or four if you want to add the Sun.

1. solid
2. liquid
3. gas
4. plasma
5. degenerate gas
