The Continents

* This is a lot more complicated than the explanation given by your primary school geography teacher. The Old World was principally Europe, Asia and Africa, in that order, it being fair to say that Europe was the major centre of learning for most of human history. Then came the Americas, which are two continents. Then Australasia which is sometimes deemed part of a larger continent called Oceania. Finally, there is Antarctica.

In the distant geological past there was only one continent, known as Pangea. Very finally, there are the mythical continents of Lemuria, Mu and Atlantis.

1. Europe
2. Asia
3. Africa
4. North America
5. South America
6. Australasia
7. Antarctica
