The 7 Destructions Of The Temple Of Vesta

 

1. 390BC: Destroyed by the Gauls.
2. 241BC: Destroyed by an (apparently) accidental fire.
3. August 9, 48BC: Destroyed by an earthquake.
4. 14BC: Destroyed by fire again, rebuilt by Augustus.
5. 64AD: Destroyed during the Great Fire of Rome, which started July 18.
6. 191AD: Destroyed by fire yet again; rebuilt by Julia Domna, wife of Septimius Severus.
7. 1549: Demolished by Pope Paul III and its marble used for building projects.

The Temple was built by Numa Pompilius (he of the Calendar Reforms).
