* Below is the front cover of the original 1939 book. The name Rudolph can also be spelt Rudolf and is generally so in the UK. The names of the other reindeer vary. The original story dates to the early Nineteenth Century. The German phrase Donnner und Blitzen is well known in English; it means thunder and lightning. In the original Dutch this renders as donder en bliksem.
