February 14, 1994: At Providence, Rhode Island, teenager Eva Baptista accuses her ex-boyfriend of raping her in his car. She files her complaint on Monday morning claiming the incident happened around half past midnight. In no time at all, Joao Pina is arrested; he is arraigned the following day, but the same day around 10am, Baptista’s new boyfriend phones a detective and tells him the rape never happened. Eva admits she lied. According to Pina, although they had dated for years, he had not seen her since they broke up in November, even though she had phoned him repeatedly since then.

Eva Baptista is charged with filing a false report while the courts are still dealing with her complaint! The same day - February 15 - she is sentenced to supervised probation for one year, 20 hours of community service and ordered her to pay court costs.
