I saw a shooting star tonight
While I was running round,
It wasn’t very big or bright,
It never made a sound.
’Twas horizontal as it blazed
So swiftly ’cross the sky,
And in a second was erased
From all but my mind’s eye.
I might have been the only man on Earth
Who saw its glow,
I don’t know what that gimcrack’s worth,
Not much, but even so
I thought I’d write a little verse
To let somebody know.
