Snowballs

They start from the humblest
Of acorn beginnings,
Growing quickly into mighty white oaks.

From youthful hilltops
They are launched by starry-eyed adolescents
Into blind valleys.

From tennis ball to football,
From football to steamroller;
Consequences growing with their magnitudes.

A boy blinks: a man winces;
A childish misdemeanour
Grows into a permanent, ugly scar.
