Lucre Lies

That money can’t buy happiness
The poor are often told,
Despite the fact that most duress
Is caused by lack of gold.
I doubt if I
Could find a lie
More freely bought and sold.

The dupes who credit such as this
Must ever lose the race,
If ignorance is truly bliss
They relish its embrace,
Or they’d have sussed
They’re told this just
To keep them in their place.
