My first chess career was moderately successful. As a junior, I played at county level. I played on Board 1 for Middlesex on one occasion and was very proud of the fact that I never lost for my county.
As a junior, I also won the Middlesex Championship at the second attempt with 6 wins and 3 draws. I doubt I would have fared half as well had all the really strong players not been playing in the national championships at the same time.
I was also joint first in a major tournament at Ilford, but that was about as good as things got.
My second chess career was spectacularly successful. Returning after a twenty year lay off, I felt entitled to enter minor tournaments, and won four in a row. My proudest achievement though was winning the Crystal Palace club championship in Millennium Year; this included beating the strongest player in the club with the Pirc Defence, a favourite of his.
I will not though be embarking on a third chess career.
All the games on this page are 10 minute games, and all are recorded in English classical notation. I hate algebraic and want no part of it. They are lightly annotated. Enjoy. Or not.
