I read this book sometime between 1980 and 1982. In my humble opinion it is one of the finest on the subject ever written, better even than the author's later book Why Civilizations Self-Destruct.
You don’t have to agree with everything Pendell says – I don’t – but its wisdom is irrefutable. His comments on decolonialisation, in particular on Rhodesia, were prophetic. They were published here on April 17, 2012.
